A generous grant from the Robin Santos Memorial Charitable Trust funded our 2018 Boobie Beanies Project. La Leche League volunteers hand knit Boobie Beanies for new babies to celebrate the start of the precious relationship developed through nursing.

Research shows us support is so important to help parents meet their breastfeeding goals. La Leche League of the Northeast Kingdom offers phone help and free breastfeeding support meetings at NVRH and the Cobleigh Public Library in Lyndonville. You can also connect with us on Facebook and help build a supportive community where we can share our experiences with others who may need encouragement or find answers to our questions. Many great friendships have started with La Leche League!

In addition to providing essential nutrition, breastfeeding has many benefits for both mother and baby. Women experience reduced rates of breast, uterine, cervical, and ovarian cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, liver disease, and postpartum depression while babies acquire antibodies that help them fight off viruses and bacteria, have a decreased likelihood for allergies and dental caries, ear and respiratory infections, intestinal disorders, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, the bond that babies develop with their mothers through breastfeeding leads to emotional development and stability.

We hope you will consider sharing pictures of your baby with us. When you share pictures of your baby wearing their Boobie Beanie on the La Leche League of the Northeast Kingdom Facebook page, you help promote awareness of the importance of breastfeeding. We look forward to hearing about your “mom and baby” adventures.

Join us at an upcoming meeting. Meetings are free and open to those who are breastfeeding or expecting and considering it. LLL of Northeast Kingdom hosts three meetings in the area each month. We offer peer-based support, encouragement, and information. We provide a space for parents to support each other to meet their goals. Pregnant? Older siblings? Warm welcome to all!
